Magnesium gluconate supplement and health

Health Talk for OCBC Premier Banking by Dr. Lim Huan AnJust came back from a talk organized for OCBC (Oversea Chinese Banking Corporation) Premier Banking customer on Health by Dr. Lim Hua An, M.B.B.S. (conventional medical practitioner). He talked about almost the same topics discussed in this blog and my other blog Natural Remedies (original blog title is "Food as Medicine" but changed to Natural Remedies so I could be more flexible in subject discussed). He started off with the saying "Let Food be your medicine and medicine be your food" which is exactly what I put in the description in Food as Medicine in the blog Header. His talk was divided into 3 main section - Nutrition, Colon Cleansing, and the third part I forgot (regretted not taking a notebook and pencil along). When asked which one is more important, he said nutrition is number one. With proper nutrition, the rest will automatically follow. He mentioned one thing I had discussed about long ago in my other blog, that is, more and more medical schools are teaching nutrition as a subject now, rather than "just in passing" like in the past.

Nutrition, minerals, dietary supplements

Today's post is related to a sub-topic of nutrition - minerals. Dietary minerals are the chemical elements required by all living organisms for optimal health. We can get dietary minerals can either from food or from supplements. Some even resort to "dirt eating (pica or geophagy) to get the minerals they need.

Magnesium

Magnesium is classified as a macromineral (required in relatively large amounts). The others are trace minerals (needed in tiny amount). Magnesium is required for processing ATP (Adenosine 5'-triphosphate, a multi-functional nucleotide that is essential as the medium for intracellular energy transfer, that is, ATP transports chemical energy within cells for metabolism) and for processes which use other nucleotides to synthesize DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid which contains within its molecular structure the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms).

Other than the very essential function mentioned above, Magnesium help build bones, stimulate strong peristalsis (the rhythmic contraction of smooth muscles to propel contents through the digestive tract),

Magnesium deficiency can lead to various health problems, including muscle spasms (cramps), cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety disorders, migraines, osteoporosis, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), autism, RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome).

Magnesium supplement in the form magnesium gluconate are often used as an effective therapy for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) and other problems. Most of the Magnesium you get from pharmacies are in tablet form. MAGONATE® says they are the only source for liquid magnesium gluconate. They have more to say regarding why maintaining magnesium levels is essential. I don't think you can get liquid Magnesium Gluconate supplement in most pharmacies, but here is where you can buy MAGONATE® Liquid Magnesium Supplement.

When do you need nutritional supplements?

If you take a varied, healthy and nutritious diet, including, lots of fibers, fruits and vegetables (especially colored ones), enough protein, carbohydrate, and do not have any chronic disease or other medical problems, most nutritional specialists will be of the opinion you do not need to supplement your diet with nutritional supplements. However, modern life is hectic with most families having both husband and wife working, most likely with long hours. They may have to make do with fast food or other less nutritious food lacking in fibers, key vitamins and minerals. This may result in chronic diseases and accelerated aging.

There are also claims that although Americans appear to be well fed, many studies showed they don't get enough of vitamins and minerals. Many health conscious people take nutritional supplements as a precaution even if they are taking a reasonably nutritious and varied diet.

However, nutrition supplements can be expensive and the choices are wide, bordering on being bewildering. It is wise to shop around and the easiest, most convenient and most effective way is using a great tool that our forefathers never had, that is the Internet. You can shop online, compare prices and select suitable nutritional supplements at Shopping.com nutritional supplements. There you can hunt for nutritional supplements by categories like price range, different nutritional supplement to address different health concerns like for example nutritional supplements for heart problems, nutritional supplement type like Omega 3, or even narrow down your search to vitamin types. There is also a site search box for you to search using particular key words.
